He hovered in his mighty, red sleigh, watching from above the clouds as night settled over the land where he would start his journey this Christmas Eve. Through the silver light of the crescent moon, he saw the other lights begin: green to light his way, red to warn him from danger, and purple whenever the child needed presents for both good and bad. The night air practically vibrated with the magic all around. Snow fell gently.
He smiled, his rosy cheeks shining as bright as his lead reindeer’s nose. It was a perfect Christmas, a perfect time for his annual ride, and the magic was all his. It was all up to him to bring joy to God’s good children and to warn the wicked ways that they were heading the wrong way. The night was his!
“Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!” he called, feeling the magic increase with every name. He could hear it now instead of only feeling it. Sleigh bells jingled. His reindeers’ hooves pawed the empty air.
“On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen! Fly straight, Rudolph!” He cracked his reins, and they were off! The night was theirs; the holiday was theirs! Once again, there was still enough people believing in him for him to be able to make his deliveries, and there was still enough good in the world that his deliveries were needed. He glowed with magic and joy.
