“ALL HE HAS TO DO IS KISS THE GIRL!” Lumiere cried, throwing his candles up into the air. They poofed out as they fell back onto his lites. He wailed and threw himself onto the table, sobbing.
“There, there, old man,” Cogsworth said, awkwardly patting the back of Lumiere’s pivot. “It won’t take much longer. Surely the Master must see that Belle has come to love him.”
“Are you kidding?! You know how zick he is! Quels imbecile!”
“I know the Master can be hard, Lumiere, but he’s still the Master!”
“Don’t remind me,” the candlestick wailed.
“It can be major difficult to get the Prince to kiss the girl, mon amis, even when he knows the girl is hot for him!” Sebastian agreed. He took a long, hard look at the two friends. “But it seems to me that your happiness shouldn’t rely on your boss breaking the curse.”
“What do you mean?” Cogsworth demanded, turning to face him. The hands on his face suddenly struck together in his aggravation.
“Oui?” Lumiere lifted his face off of the table. “What are you talking about, Sebastian?”
“I’m simply sayin’, mon, maybe you need to kiss the guy instead of focusing on your boss man kissing the girl.” The crab clacked his claws together. “It’s obvious to everyone that you two belong together!”
Cogsworth’s and Lumiere’s mouths both fell open.
“Well don’t just stand there gawking at me, mon! I’m just the crab who actually said what everybody else thinks around you two!” Sebastian clicked his both of his front pincers at them. “What are you going to do about it?”
“Well, I -- I -- Hum -- Well, I -- “ Cogsworth stammered. He was so upset that his hour and minute hands were spinning swiftly around his face. He wiped at them with his tiny, metal hands but could not slow them. At last he grabbed them and held them to keep them from spinning around his face, but he still couldn’t answer Sebastian.
“There’s no shame in loving a mon, mon,” Sebastian told them.
“Of course zere is not!” Lumiere cried, his candles suddenly lighting up again. “It’s just zat Cogsworth’s never shown any -- “
“Oh please, Lumiere! Even Chip can see that you two should be together! He was regaling one of the young Princesses just last week with the story of your romance, The Candlestick and the Clock!”
“Why should the candlestick get first billing?” Cogsworth demanded, his tiny hands propping on where his hips would have been if he’d still had his human body.
“Honestly? Zat’s what most concerns you, Cogsworth?!” Lumiere cried. He tossed his lights up again into the air. “See?!” he wailed to Sebastian. “Zis is what I have to put up with!”
Sebastian gave him a long, hard look. “You do know what the best way to shut up a mon is, don’t you?”
Lumiere paused, considering his words. Then he grinned, and his flames jumped higher in his lights. He reached out and wrapped his arms around Cogsworth, who immediately started puffing at the flames to extinguish them and keep them from catching him on fire. “Lumiere!” he barked. “What is the meaning of this?! What do you think you’re doing?!” Again, the hands on his face started spinning swiftly with his anxiety.
“What I should have done long ago, mon amour,” Lumiere breathed as he leaned in close and touched his lips to Cogsworth’s mouthpiece.
At first, Cogsworth went as still as any other clock in the night club. Suddenly his hands chimed together more loudly than they ever had before. He exclaimed in shock, then silenced his own self by catching Lumiere’s hot mouth again with his own.
Sebastian smirked. “See?” he said with another clack of his claws. “Kissing the mon is exactly what you two needed!”
The lovers could not hear him, however, as they kept kissing. Their kisses grew in heat and passion as Sebastian waddled off away from them. Lumiere pressed Cogsworth down against the table.
“HEY! GET A ROOM, YOU TWO!” somebody shouted, but they were too lost in each other and their shared passion to hear them. Sebastian did hear them, however. The crab turned around and looked to see the couple making out heatedly on top of their table. He grinned, claws clacking as he started working on lyrics to a new song.
He couldn’t wait to tell Chip and the Princesses that Cogsworth and Lumiere were together at long last! Tensions may still be high at the castle, but things were soon going to be a lot better, and not just because the Prince was going to finally get his Princess, as all the Princes always did inevitably, and break the curse! The curse Cogsworth and Lumiere had placed upon themselves had been their own doing, but now they were free, free to love and free to be happily ever after in their own skins, such as it was for the time being, at last!
