She wanted to be like her, Kara thought, watching Cat Grant move with grace and confidence. She was being bombarded with nasty headlines, a villain was after her yet again, and this whole floor was crowded, busy, and loud. Yet none of it seemed to fase her boss in the least.

Kara gulped. Yes, she definitely wanted to be like Miss Grant. She didn’t want her fashion sense, her jewelry, or even her money as most of the world did. She especially didn’t want her fame; she worried enough over what Supergirl’s fame might one day cost her as it was. But what she wanted was that confidence.

As she watched her, her mind flashed back to a young class she’d visited once. Many of the girls had been screaming out that she was their hero and how much they wanted to be like her. One shy, quiet child had asked her who her hero was. Kara hadn’t had to think twice as she’d told her that her big sister, Alex, was her hero and then asked her who hers was. Just as shyly and quietly as she could, so quiet, in fact, that it had taken Kara’s superhearing to hear her, the child had responded that Cat Grant was. Kara could see that, she thought, smiling with the memory; after all, Miss Grant was her hero too in a way.

A sharp, single clap snapped Kara’s mind back to the present. She blinked as she saw her hero standing before her and looking annoyed. “Huh . . . I’m sorry.”

“Don’t just stand there gawking and apologizing,” Grant snapped at her. She waved a hand. “Go get that story! Be my super reporter!” Kara’s eyes widened, and for just a moment, she wondered if Miss Grant knew. “Go! Go, Kara! Don’t make me say it again!”

She licked her lips nervously and ducked her head. She could feel her cheeks already beginning to burn. “Yes, ma’am,” she answered obediently. “Whatever you say, Miss Grant.”

“Then why are you still standing there? GO!”

Kara turned and fled her boss’ office. Oh, yeah, she would love to have Cat Grant’s superiority and confidence! After all, even Supergirl felt a little nervous around her!
