Dawn peered nervously into the dimly lit barroom. “Are . . . Are you sure about this, guys?” she asked, looking back to the three older women accompanying her.
“Of course,” Willow started to say but was stopped by her girlfriend, who was equally as hesitant as Dawn.
“I’m not sure, Wills,” Tara whispered. “Maybe Dawnie has a point?”
“It’s good for us to be among our own kind, sweetheart.”
“Kid’s just nervous,” Faith spoke up. The rogue Slayer’s dark gaze zeroed in on Dawn. “‘Less we got her pegged wrong? And I don’t think we do. Do we, squirt?”
“No,” Dawn answered slowly, looking apprehensively around them. There were women at the bar, women talking in hushed tones and sipping their drinks at tables, other women slugging beers down their throats, women playing pool . . . There was even one couple passionately making out on one of the pool tables. Their rising moans made her blush.
“Then go have fun,” Faith told her. “We’re here if you pick the wrong one.”
“But what if . . . What if they don’t like me?”
“You’ve got the goods,” Faith said, surveying her. “What’s not to like?” She was wearing one of Buffy’s old tops, the tops of her young and perky breasts peeking out from the blouse’s low cut. Faith reached out suddenly and snatched her already tight jeans down a little further over her hips.
Faith ignored her protest, spun her around, and slapped her butt. “Go,” she directed her again. “Have fun. Before your sister figures out where we are and freaks.”
“Buffy wouldn’t like this, would she?” Dawn asked with a sly grin starting to turn up the corners of her mouth.
“Not one bit,” Faith agreed, knowing that was the final ammunition Dawn needed to get motivated and get going.
Dawn strode off into the crowd finally, and Faith watched her go.
“You know,” Willow spoke up beside Faith, “I have to admit, I half thought you’d -- “
“Go after her myself?” Faith flashed her a cocky grin. “She’s still just a kid, Wills, and she’s B’s baby sister.” And she was going to make damn sure B was well out of the country when she finally had her go at her.
