He had never really been alive. He had never known what it was to live and breathe as a human being. Nor had he ever had any real interest in the species until he had discovered this particular invention. Couples were cozying together all around him in the cafe lit only by candlelight. Death had often puzzled over humanity’s passion, but in this one thing, he could well understand it.
He sighed, brought the wonderful thing closer to him, and took another slow, delectable nibble. He savored it, holding the tomato sauce, meat, bread, and cheese in his mouth for a long while before finally swallowing it. Oh, yes, he could definitely understand passion where pizza was concerned! He took his time savoring each bite before finally turning back to work.
It almost seemed a shame to end the life of such a fabulous cook. It was definitely a shame he couldn’t spend all Saturday night devouring his delicious concoctions. Death pondered the thought before finally ordering another pie and deciding to allow the chef to carry on one more night. At closing time, his own bill paid, Death received the portly, Italian chef as he doubled over his oven.
