They say that space is quiet, cold, and lonely, but First Mate Jenny O’Hare knows better. Quiet doesn’t come often for gunning engines, a crew who cracks fun as often as they prepare for battle, and enemy fire. It’s an even rarer time when the ship is as quiet as she is now. Jenny’s twitching ears can easily pick up the sounds of her friends and family breathing and snoring lightly.
They’re wrong; space is anything but lonely. Each breath she hears brings a smile to the First Mate’s face. She sits alone in the cockpit, but she’s far from alone. She’s surrounded by her family, by men who have become more brothers to her than she ever could have had back on Alderberan and a rabbit who she loves more than life itself. She listens to his breathing and purrs quietly underneath her own breath as she pilots the ship onward to their destination. She hopes, as she always does, that this next battle will be victorious and bring the end of the war, but regardless of rather or not it does, Jenny knows her family will be together for a long time and she’ll never be alone again.
