Jody gasped and moved quickly forward through the small shop. Donna watched her partner finger a shining, silver trigger, her own expression hovering somewhere between a teasing smirk and a fond smile. “Leave it to you to come antique shopping and fall in love with a new gun -- “ Her own words ended in a startled gasp as she swept through the shop to a counter toward the back.
All sorts of kitchen gadgets covered the counter, but it was one in particular that had captivated her attention. “Jody-yo! Do you know what this is?!”
Jody blinked. “Should I?”
“This is one of the very first doughnut machines! It made doughnuts at the World Fair in 1934!” She fingered the machine as others would touch diamonds. “Wowza!”
“You should buy it.”
“Oh, I don’t need -- “
“We could cook the girls doughnuts one morning. They’d love it!”
“They would at that!” She sighed. Her face dropped when she saw the price. “I can’t afford that!”
Reaching her, Jody grabbed her hand. Her mouth was open to tell her they could buy it together, but she stopped and looked again at the price. “No, but we can get a newer one.”
