Buffy wakes to find Faith, cold, naked, and unmoving, at the foot of her bed. “Faith,” she whispers, instantly concerned, “what is it?” Faith doesn’t answer her even as Buffy crawls out from underneath their shared covers and to her side. She wraps her arms around her and pulls her close, one hand rubbing her arm.
Her flesh is covered with goosebumps, and Buffy realizes she must have been sitting here for some time. “Nightmares again?” Faith still doesn’t answer, but when Buffy urges, “Wanna talk about it?”, she does at last move to shake her head.
Cupping her face in her hands, Buffy turns Faith’s head to look at her. She kisses her forehead, then, with her forehead pressing gently against hers, stares into her dark, troubled eyes. “You’re not that person anymore,” she says. “We’ve all forgiven you, but I know it’s harder to forgive yourself.” Faith still says nothing; she swallows hard and nods
“You’ve done so much good since those days. Everybody knows you know you aren’t the same. You’re better. That’s not you anymore.” She kisses her forehead again, a chaste, gentle, and reassuring press of her lips against Faith’s cold skin. “Come back to sleep with me?”
Faith doubts she’ll sleep. She knows she’ll never forgive herself or forget her actions from before. She’ll never forget that she killed an innocent. She’s surprised B can forgive her, but she has. She nods finally and, with Buffy’s hand holding hers, crawls back underneath the covers.
