Dean looked up from the charts he was studying with Sam to where Castiel sat, fidgeting again in a chair. The former Angel had been constantly repositioning himself for all of three minutes when Dean finally snapped, “You gotta go to the bathroom or something?!”
“No. I mean, of course I do excrete now that I am one of you, but that is not why I am moving about with impatience. That is why you ask, is it not?”
Dean glowered at him. “Cas -- “
“I’m sorry, Dean, but I have to go!” He jumped out of his chair and raced for the door. “The man is coming!”
“The man? What man?!”
“The nice man! The nice man with all the flavors!”
Dean and Sam exchanged looks as Castiel ran out of their motel room. “I’m after him,” Dean muttered and charged out the door after Castiel. He had barely ran pass three doors when he heard music. “No way -- “ He looked up, saw Castiel gathering with a bunch of kids, and broke out into a grin.
The children cheered as the ice cream man pulled into their parking lot. Dean thought he heard Cas shout as well. He leaned against a nearby post, folded his arms before his chest, and waited. He’d jab Cas good when his friend was done with his visit with the “nice man with all the flavors”.
Then Dean saw a sign, and his own mouth watered. Still salivating, it dropped open as he continued to stare. Everybody had heard of ice cream trucks, but this one advertised pie too! Dean waited impatiently for the children to get done, then made his way up through the crowd and waited behind Cas to place his order.
“I want one of those,” Dean said, pointing to the fresh slab of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top just as his brother emerged from their room. Sam approached cautiously, eyeing Dean, Cas, and the children.
“Sam, don’t you dare say a word,” Dean muttered in warning through savoring a bite of his pie and cream. He closed his eyes with relish. The stuff really did taste like it had just been made that morning!
Sam looked around him again, then up at the ice cream man. “Do you have any vegan selections?”
“Actually,” the ice cream man smiled, “I do.”
All lamented the ice cream truck pulling out of the lot minutes later, but there was one thing they all agreed on. “Best ice cream ever!”
Dean licked his fingers. “Best apple pie ever!”
