“What’s that?” Dean asked, looking down from Crowley’s throne to the colorful rings far below.
“That is my very own special Olympics,” Crowley boasted. “Once a year, every a year, I pick some Demons to compete in a variety of tasks.”
“Olympics? Really? In Hell? I thought that was boring enough in life.”
“Oh, it’s not boring at all down here, my boy!”
“Really?” Dean smirked at him as though he knew better. There was no way Crowley could make sports all that interesting among Demons.
“Really.” Crowley smiled. Flames flickered in his eyes. He waved his hands, and Dean could suddenly see far more clearly into the rings.
One Demon was quickly moving hot, bubbling pies. He tried to pass them on to his opponent before they could explode, but suddenly one popped open, exploding straight into his face. Dean grimaced as the blueberry filling slid down the Demon’s face, taking flesh with it. “Remind me to stay away from blueberries down here,” he muttered.
Looking into the next circle, he saw Demons skiing inside a volcano. They were defying gravity, skiing upward instead of down; Dean could easily see why. The volcano exploded just after two had escaped its hungry mouth, swallowing the rest of the competitors amongst wretched, pain-filled screams.
“And in the third,” Crowley said, leaning forward, “we have those who struggle to train Juliet’s latest puppies.”
Dean grinned. “Now this I have to see!” Soon he and Crowley were rolling with laughter. When Juliet’s puppies bit, they took whole organs with them, but watching the hapless minions scramble to escape the Hellpups was the most hilarious thing the two higher Demons had seen in a long time. Dean slapped Crowley’s back. “Next year, I want a front row seat!”
“You’ll have one,” Crowley vowed, beaming.
