She watches him lay still in his bed and wonders how many other parents have ever felt starstruck looking at their own child. It’s a good question, she supposes, but her Finn is one of a kind. She always knew her child would be special, but she’d never dreamed he could become this special.
Of course, then, too, as much as she loves Disney, she never would have dared believe that the characters could possibly be real until she learned they were and were in danger. And it was her son and his friends who had raised up to save them. She reaches out and strokes the hair from his forehead.
He worries her when he’s like this, asleep and fighting for a cause in which they both believe, but she couldn’t be prouder of him. She leans down and kisses his forehead. “Be safe, Finn, and hurry home to me, dear.” His father’s away for the night, so she doesn’t have to pretend everything is normal. She sinks into the chair she’s brought to his bedside, watch over him, and wait for him to wake. He’ll come to her, and he’ll come home as he always does: a hero.
