Kimberly sighs as she leans against Trini. Trini brushes her cheek against her soft hair. “You ready to go home?” she whispers.
“I am home.” Kimberly blushes in the settling dark. “Well . . . Huh . . . Well . . . No, I’m not ready for the day to be over.”
“It was a long day,” Trini murmurs, watching her out of the corner of her dark eyes.
“It was,” Kimberly agrees, “but it was a good day. We kicked Rita Repulsa’s ass, and I still got to watch the sunset with my best friend.”
“I thought we were more than that.” The words leave Trini’s mouth before she even realizes she’s thinking them. Now it’s her turn to stammer. “I-I mean . . .“ Heat crawls up her neck.
Kimberly sits up suddenly, but she’s smiling at her. “We are whatever you want us to be,” she says solemnly.
“Do we have to put a name on it?”
Kim shrugs. “Only if you want to. You are my best friend, but it doesn’t stop at that.”
Trini beams. “That’s good enough for me,” she says, but then she leans forward and kisses her. They don’t have to have labels, but Kimberly is far more than the best friend she’s ever had. She’s her partner in all ways, heart and soul, and whereas she may not have the words to tell her, her lips and tongue do a fine job of describing exactly how she feels without ever bothering to speak another word for the rest of their night together.
