“Come on, Red,” Harley pleads. “Don’t do this to me, not now. Let me take you somewhere, anywhere, to some beach somewhere, warm you up.”
“There’s no time,” Ivy whispers, her eyes still closed. “Besides, I don’t need that. I need you.”
“Ivy -- “
“Shush, flower,” Ivy coaxes, cupping Harley’s crying face in her hands. “You’ll always be my prettiest rose, but you’re not the flower any more. I need your sun, Harls. I need you.”
“Damn that Freeze! He’s going to pay for this!”
Ivy places a gloved fingers on Harley’s cold lips. “He will,” she promises, “with time, but right now, time is of the essence. Right now, I need you.”
“To do what, Red? I’m not the freaking sun! I can’t -- “
“Kiss me back to life?” Ivy whispers when Harley’s words fail her and she sputters wordlessly. “Yes, you can. Just kiss me.”
Harley’s still looking doubtfully down at her, but she’s never been one to refuse kisses to those few she’s loved. She leans down and carefully, gently places her lips over Ivy’s. Ivy feels so cold that a shiver runs through Harley, but then Ivy threads her gloved fingers through Harley’s blonde hair and pushes her mouth down closer against hers. She gasps, opening her mouth, and Harley breathes into her.
Ivy trembles as heat floods her. She keeps Harley’s head in position, and Harley, feeling her response, deepens the kiss. Her tongue swoops in and out of her mouth, teasing her until Ivy’s tongue curls around hers and pulls it further down her mouth. Harley’s hands spread quickly over Ivy’s body, caressing every inch she can reach and building the heat within her. To her amazement, it really does seem to be working!
She doesn’t let up until she absolutely has to breathe. Then she rocks back onto the heels of her boots and watches Ivy hopefully, expectantly . . . Her lover opens her eyes and looks up into hers. She smiles, and Harley’s heart jumps an excited beat. Ivy winks. “Told you you had it in you. I just needed to be warmed, and you do that better than anybody else I’ve ever known.”
“Can we go get Freeze now,” Harley asks, “and return our city to normal?”
“You bet we can. The Bat’s going to have to wait his turn this time. Freeze destroyed my garden, and he’s going to pay!” As fully grown trees spring up out of the ground, their limbs carefully covering the women, Harley beams. “This is going to be fun!”
“No, this is business. The fun,” Ivy grins at her, “comes after.” She winks back at her. “My promise to you, sunshine.”
