She can’t look at anybody as they walk through the town. She can’t lift her eyes to face anyone until they enter the Max and she’s at last with her most cherished friend. Out of the corner of her eyes, Jessie can see Kelly being embraced by Zack and Screech staring adorkably at Lisa as usual. “It’s silly,” Jessie mutters yet again, her face flushing, but she does at last raise her eyes.
And as she does so, all thoughts of silliness go out of her mind. Every bit of embarrassment wearing the sprigs of holly both Lisa and Kelly thought were so cool to adorn their hair is vanished in a single moment of witnessing the way Slater is gazing adoringly at her. She flushes again, this time for an entirely different reason. She’s not accustomed to being the object of attention. She’s not used to any man looking at her way the way Slater is now doing and not wanting something she’s never going to give anyone until she has a ring on her finger.
“I don’t think so, Mama,” he says, raising a hand and cupping her cheek. Everything this guy has made her feel, all of which is still new to Jessie, comes rushing back to her in his caress. “I think it just highlights your natural beauty.”
“I bet you say that to all the girls,” she starts, but he just shakes his head, crinkles his nose, and shows her his dimples.
“Nah.” He kisses her, and Jessie forgets everything else. If it did snow in Bayside, Slater’s kisses would be hot enough to melt it all, but as it is, they still melt all her defenses and send her swooning into his strong arms. This is truly going to be the best Christmas ever!
