Cam screamed as a masked woman came at him in the darkness. He fumbled with the lightswitch and threw it on just as she reached him. “Gloria?!” he asked in disbelief.
“Cam!” she hissed. “What are you doing here?”
“What are you doing here,” he asked, “at Closets, Closets, Closets after hours? And in a costume?!” His hand suddenly covered his heart. “Never mind!” But then he grinned. “Mitch would be horrified to know you’re seeing someone after his father’s death.”
Gloria paused. “Are you?” she asked.
Cam hesitated only a moment. “No. No! As long as you’re happy, that’s all I care about. Jay would want you to be happy, Gloria. Now go! Go before Mitch finds us!”
“Ay yi yi!” Gloria hurried down the hall and slipped through several more rooms before coming to Closet Closet Closet’s newest creation. There was another of the Pritchett brood tied to the floor of the mirrored closet, her hands tied behind her back. Gloria sank to her knees in the closet and quickly removed the gag from Claire’s mouth.
Claire looked up at her, wide-eyed. “I would say ‘my hero’, but what took you so long?!”
“I ran into a bear in the woods,” Gloria replied quickly, unfastening Claire’s bonds, “but he doesn’t care whose porridge I’m eating.”
“So now I’m Goldilocks?” Claire snapped.
Gloria shrugged. “I don’t care who you are,” she answered honestly. “I just know I love you, spitfire anger and all.” She kissed her, her mission completed.
