“No, Ivy,” Harley wails, “you have to let me go!”
“Why?” Ivy demands, tightening her grip. “So he can hurt you again?”
“So he won’t kill you!” Harley throws at her, tears and rain drops both pelting her face.
“That bastard won’t kill me,” Ivy growls defiantly, “and he won’t touch you ever again!” She pulls Harley to her. Harley digs her heels into the mud. Vines wrap around her legs, pulling and straining to lift her for their mistress with all her might, but the blonde is stubborn and surprisingly strong.
“Harley,” Ivy cries, finally letting go of her, trusting her vines to keep her, and cupping her face in her hands, “he’s not getting you back, and you won’t lose me either, I promise!”
Harley trembles. “Promises were meant to be broken, Red.”
“Not my promises,” Ivy declares. “I don’t make my promises lightly, and I promise you he’s not getting either of us ever again! Now come here!” Working with her plants, she snatches her to her, wraps her arms around her, and sends a shower of kisses and softly falling rose petals down upon Harley’s tortured face.
Harley’s whimpers give way to sobs, but Ivy holds tight. She’s never been a woman to give her word lightly, or to love lightly either. Harley has both, and she’s never letting go again. She holds her through the storm and all the rest that follow.
