Gomez looks at the shadows slowly beginning to gather around the porch. Nightfall is coming, but yet he still has not heard a single bat shriek or owl hoot. He can still hear the annoying sounds of distant travel and the occasional bits of human discourse. He pouts. “Remind me again, ‘Tish, why we left the mother country and came to this place.”
“Why, for what it offers for the children, of course, Gomez -- “
“More opportunities. Do come on to the backyard, dear. It’s so much more gloomy back there.”
The backyard does offer a lot more. There is the swamp land, the quicksand, and the ancient trees with their sweeping boughs. There’s bound to be at least one bat or night bird who has made those trees their home!
“Come, mon cher.”
He forgets everything else when she calls him that. She ducks around the corner. He follows swiftly, catching her in the backyard and sweeping her up into his arms. He begins covering her with kisses, his cares forgotten. They are Addamses; he has Morticia for his loving wife! That will never change and is all that really matters, wherever they are!
