She’s felt like crying ever since the doctor showed her the test results. She managed to keep from breaking down at the hospital. She cried a little when she first entered her car, but she got home safely. She got home -- only this place no longer feels like home.
None of this feels right; none of it has for a very long time. None of it seems real now today, though. It’s almost like she’s living in a nightmare from which she’s not awakening.
She hears a scurrying sound behind her, underneath her bed, and almost doesn’t dare to look. Her eyes do glance up to her mirror, though, and she smiles for the first time in weeks, through her tears, as she sees them. “You came.”
“‘Course we came, Sarah.”
“You can turn around, fair lady.”
She does, and they’re still there. Then the window blows open, and he is there. “After all this time,” Jareth asks, “now you call me?”
There’s so much she wants to say, but she can’t speak. She trembles. His arms open. She falls into them, sobbing. He closes them away from the world, and at last, Sarah is home.
