She stretches and moans as her alarm pierces the still, morning air. She has much to do today if her latest plan is to succeed, but she’s not ready to give up the bliss she’s been enjoying, the bliss she only finds in the moments she’s just been enjoying. She groans her lover’s name as she flips over in her cold, empty bed. Irene isn’t here; she hasn’t been with her, physically, for years, for too damn long.
In reality, her beloved is dead, her body a rotting corpse, her smile not having graced Raven’s yellow eyes in well over a decade. Their children hate Raven, and there’s nothing left of the family Raven thought she had. But in her dreams, everything is right. Irene is alive and well, and both Kurt and Rogue have forgiven and learned to love her. In her dreams, everything is perfect.
Raven turns again, her hand sliding underneath her feather pillow and coming to rest on the cold, hard steel of her gun. She has a lot to do, but the world can wait. She’s going back to the love of her life and their children. She’s going back to sleep, and if anybody wakes her, it’ll be the last mistake they ever make.
