"IT'S NOT FAIR!" she yells at her the moment they're alone.
Shogo's eyes screw up tight at the scream. His tiny hands ball into fists; he starts to wail.
"Oh, great," Jubilee mutters, bouncing him and glaring at Roxie over the shades slipping down her nose. "Look at what you've done now."
"Look at what I've done?! WHAT ABOUT WHAT YOU'VE DONE, JUBILEE?!"
"Hush," she snaps, cutting eyes at the door while still bouncing Shogo, "before somebody hears you!"
"Oh, that's original coming from THE BIGGEST LOUDMOUTH OF US ALL!"
"You know I'm trying to be better!"
"BUT YOU'RE NOT BEING BETTER, JUBIE! YOU'RE STILL HURTING YOUR FRIENDS! Who's been there for you since Day One? I HAVE, AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME!"
"Roxie, I'm sorry you're angry -- "
"YOU'RE SORRY I'M ANGRY?! YOU'RE SORRY I'M ANGRY?! HOW ABOUT BEING SORRY FOR GIVING ME A DAMN GOOD REASON TO BE PISSED?!"
Jubilee sighs. Between Roxie's screams and Shogo's wails, her head is really starting to hurt. Damn Vampire hearing! She wonders how telepaths and the others with advanced hearing ever manage to keep their heads from exploding from all the fights. "Just hear me out!" she pleads.
"WHY? WHY?! GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON WHY I SHOULD!"
"Because you know me, Roxie -- "
"I THOUGHT I DID! I TRUSTED YOU, JUBILEE! I TRUSTED YOU, AND THEN YOU DO THIS?! HOW COULD YOU?! YOU, OF ALL PEOPLE, KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO WANT TO BE A X-MAN!" Tears brim in her eyes. "AND THEN YOU DO THIS TO ME!"
"I WAS SELFISH, OKAY?!"
"YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT YOU WERE SELFISH!"
"Not in the way you're thinking, Rox, and remember I told you already, I told you all: If being a X-Man is what you want, then I'll fight just as hard alongside you to make it happen! Pryde kinda wondered why I wanted you on this team, but I wanted somebody I could trust, somebody I knew would have my back!" She peers up at Roxie above Shogo's head as she places a gentle kiss on the baby's forehead. "You always have."
"PRECISELY! I ALWAYS HAVE! SO HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME?!"
"Roxie, your skin is as hard as a diamond. You're already one Helluva fighter. If being a X-Man is what you want, we'll make it happen. I promise you we will!"
"You . . . You promise?"
"Yes! But I need somebody to have my side right now. I don't know what I'm doing with these kids! Hell, in some ways, I still feel like a kid myself! When I first got turned, and when I first got Shogo, both times you promised me you'd be here for me. That's all I'm asking now. I want you beside me."
" . . . And I will still get to be a X-Man?"
"If that's what you want, yeah. But will you stay beside me in the meantime?"
Roxie softens, closes the distance between them, and wraps both Jubilee and Shogo in a hug. "Always," she vows and kisses her.
