"You know, Dorothy," Blanche retorts, a pout forming on her pretty, red lips but a scowl darkening her eyes, "a little praise wouldn't hurt you."
"I know it wouldn't, but you don't need me telling you how beautiful you look."
"Maybe Ah don't need it, but maybe Ah'd like to hear it any way."
"Why when the rest of Miami already tells you?"
"Because, you dumbass," Blanche glowers, "th' rest o' Miami isn't you."
"Why do you care what I think? You're the one who's always telling me how handsome I am."
"Precisely! Why do you always think that's a bad thing? You're supposed to be handsome!"
"Maybe I'd like to be called beautiful just once!"
"Would you?" Blanche looks into her eyes. "Women are beautiful; men are handsome."
"I know, and you're always telling me how tall I am like a man, how strong I am like a man, how handsome I am like a man -- "
"Uh huh," Blanche agrees. "And since when do you not like to hear that you look like the handsome man you believe you should've been born as?"
Dorothy's jaw swings back and forth, but no sound emits. "I . . . " she finally speaks. "I . . . You know?" she asks, dumbfounded.
"Of course Ah know! Ah love you, Dorothy Zbornak, no mattah what you have between yoah legs, but Ah know you always wanted to be a man! Ah know you believe you should've been born one. Ah'm not only okay with that; Ah know, if you had yoah right body, you'd be th' most devastatingly handsome man in Miami!"
Dorothy stares at her. She still doesn't compliment her. But when she moves again, it's to kiss her with the most passion, joy, and love she's ever felt before in her whole life.
