She remembers when she thought her pain would go on forever and when she was so furious with Buffy for not letting her take the easy way out. She could have had it all. She almost had. Only Buffy had stood in her way.
And now again, tonight, Buffy stands before her, naked and glorious in the moonlight. Her full lips draw down into a pout as she watches Faith closely, too closely like she always has before. "You're doing it again," she accuses.
"What?" Faith asks, stopping her advance and looking, wide eyed, at her fellow Slayer. It was only the two of them before all the rest were called. Sometimes, she feels like it's still just the two of them against the whole damn world. And sometimes, she really wishes Buffy wouldn't read her so damn easily and clearly.
"You're thinking too much again."
"Me? Thinking too much? Come on, B." She grins. "You know that's not me."
Buffy's eyes gaze directly into hers for a long moment. Faith feels truly naked before her. She's never minded baring her body, but she doesn't like to have her soul bared. She almost trembles before. Almost, but then she stiffens her spine and holds her head up her high in defiance. She isn't the same girl who used to cringe every time Buffy looked too closely; she has nothing to hide now, not from herself or from her girlfriend.
"I think you're the one thinking too much," she says, wrapping Buffy in her arms and bringing her closer. Even now, she won't tell her the truth of her thoughts. Even now, she won't bare that part of her soul and leave her heart, open and silently bleeding, before her. She stares defiantly into her eyes, but her lips against hers are soft, pliant, giving --
She won't tell her the truth, and she won't let her see it for herself. She won't tell her she stops all her thoughts every time she kisses her, that she takes her very breath away. She won't speak of her feelings, and she damn sure won't tell her that every night she holds her, every time she kisses her, every moment she loves her, she saves another piece of her for another night. But if her actions belie her words, if her gentle touches tell her things her lips will never say, those are their secrets to keep tonight and every night Buffy will have her.
