Merton struggles to get out from underneath Tommy's bulk. "I should go research -- " He's cut off by a soft, plaintive whine. He looks up at his boyfriend, and his breath catches at the sight of Tommy's begging eyes full of tears. "Tommy, we can't just go into the battle without knowing what we're up against."
But Tommy's reaching for him again. His claws barely graze Merton's pale shoulder as he tugs him closer. "Tommy," Merton protests again and is once more answered by a whine.
"Merton, please . . . Please don't leave me."
Merton stares up into the eyes of the man he loves who's usually so eager to go do something, anything, other than merely cuddle with him. Time is of the essence, he knows, but it's far too rare that he gets Tommy like this. A grin breaks over his face. "You do get emotional at this time, don't you?" he asks, glancing at his closed curtains and knowing that, in a few more hours, the full moon will rise.
"Just stay," Tommy pleads. "Please stay."
Merton's grin grows; he chuckles. "Fine. I'll stay."
"Yay!" Tommy gathers him closer into his arms, licks his cheek, and begins nuzzling his neck. Merton hears his tail whacking his bed with joy and succumbs with a loving smile, knowing he'd best enjoy this part of Tommy while he can because, once the full moon is gone, he'll be back to normal and between saving Pleasantville and everything he does as the Team Captain of the school's football team, barely have any time for him again.
In truth, he wishes they could stay just like this forever. His research can most definitely wait. As long as he's got Tommy in his arms and his lips on his skin, the whole freaking world can wait.
