"The sky's the limit," he'd told her that one year. He'd lived up to his word. He had given her everything she could want for that birthday: everything from new clothes to the hottest CDs to an adventure in Japan to remember for the rest of her life which, it turns out, might just be as long as his was. But as painful as it is to realize, and to admit, it's over now.
Jubilee stares at the setting sun through tears filling her red eyes. Once more, she hears his gruff, gravelly voice in her head. "The sky's the limit," he'd told her again once when she'd asked him what he would do for her. Logan had always been a man of his word. He'd told her he would come back. Every time he'd left her, he'd told her he would come back.
Except she wasn't there the last time he went away. She wasn't there to have him give his word again, to tell her he'd come back again. She lifts the single, colorful cupcake to the last ray of sunshine and solemnly blows out the lone candle. "Happy Birthday, Wolvy. Come home." She can't eat for sobbing.
