"I was supposed to rule the world!" Salem cries, his tail striking the counter. "I was supposed to be somebody! I was supposed to make the world a better place! I had a mission! And now look at me! I'm just a cat, a damn Witch's mascot!"
"We don't think of you as a mascot," Sabrina says, reaching out and scratching his head.
"Yeah, right," Salem says, determined not to give in to her touch. The girl really does know how to stroke him. "That's why Hilda's always turning me into everything under the sun. And why you had me become a radio and play music for you and Harvey last night. You're lucky that boy didn't turn around -- "
"Aw," Sabrina croons, "I think somebody needs his catnip mouse."
"I DON'T NEED A DAMN MOUSE!" Salem yells, batting the toy out of her hand. His muscles quiver as he reins in his instincts and keeps from chasing after it. "I need somebody to listen to me! I wasn't just trying to take over the world for the power!"
"Right." She throws a bright ball of yarn, and all of Salem's protests come to a screeching halt as he springs into the chase.
