A man's home is his castle. She certainly heard that line enough growing up. It was one of her father's favorite ways to end arguments and get what he wanted without continuing to fight with her mother. But now, as the woman of her own home, Mary has a new outlook on that infamous, old line.
She stands in the doorway, her arms crossed before her and a look of determination of her face that could have easily rivaled her old man's. "You're not going anywhere," she tells John. "Today is his birthday, and you're going to be here." She dangles his keys before him, her beautiful eyes narrowed in warning.
John hesitates. He could hotwire his own vehicle, and he's got another set of keys . . . somewhere. But the monsters will still be there tomorrow and later tonight, when it will be easier both to slip out undetected and to catch his target. "Okay, darling," he says, grinning, walking forward, and giving her a kiss. He'll let her think she's won for now, but once Dean's asleep tonight, he'll be back in the fight. A man's home is his castle, after all, and there's nothing more worthy of his defense.
