Belle jumps as the doors slam shut behind her. The sound resonates throughout the ancient castle's walls like a mighty blast of thunder. She looks up at the Queen, suddenly aware that they are alone. She gulps but does not back down. "Your guards . . . ?" she starts to ask.
"Are fine," the Queen answers before she can complete her thought aloud. She rises from her throne and descends toward Belle, an image so beautiful and elegant that it's like something out of one the brunette's many, many books. She gulps again as the Queen nears her.
Cinderella smiles, but it doesn't ease the icy fear racing up Belle's spine. She offers the girl her hand. "I find that I do my best thinking while dancing, and this is to be a very important agreement for our kingdoms."
Belle takes her hand, although she's suddenly not at all sure she should be here. Cinderella spins her across the floor once, twice, three times before setting the terms before her. "Our kingdoms will reach an alliance," she speaks as though there is no question. "You may return to your husband tomorrow and never have to see me again unless . . . "
"Unless?" Belle gulps again, and she swears that the sound echoes in the throne room.
"Unless you can not remember his given name when our dance is finished." Cinderella smiles. They never can. The girl is hers to add to her ever growing army of glittering, beautiful Princesses.
