She stares at her dearest friend, her own eyes wide and filling with tears. She thought she had finally found a place where her life could have possibilities: possibilities for love, possibilities for friendship, possibilities for . . . more. Now she has at last found her parents, but their very identities have destroyed the hopes she had for love.
She stares at her mother for a long minute, remembering all the times they've shared in this quiet apartment. There were mornings waking next to her and being kissed from her ears to her toes seemed like Wonderland, but just like Alice, she's been evicted from her paradise. She's turning to leave when her mother -- Mary Margaret? Snow? Mom? What does she even call her now? -- calls to her. "Emma."
She doesn't look back, but as she takes another step out the door, Snow springs. She touches her elbow. The gentle touch of her fingers on her bare skin finally makes her look at her again. She stops and stares for her mother is so beautiful, especially when she's crying, as she is now through her smile. "You don't have to leave."
Snow shakes her head vehemently. "No. Not . . . " She chews her bottom lip, a nervous habit they both have. "Not unless you want to."
"I don't!" Emma wails, turning back around.
"Then don't," her mother answers as though it's the simplest thing in the world. She takes her into her arms, and her lips find hers again.
