"Don't look down," she'd told her, which both had recognized an instant later was about the worst thing she could have said as Rahne's wild, green eyes went immediately to the ground -- or, at least, where the ground should have been.

"Look at something else, anything else!"

"Like wha'?!" Rahne had snapped, fur already beginning to grow over her body. Her wolf's tail sprouted from behind and whisked at the hot air. The movement almost jarred her footing, and although Rahne kept from falling, she had not dared move again until Danielle had called, more in desperation than anything else, "Look at me! Look into my eyes!"

It was a lame line, their field leader had known, one she never would've normally deployed, but she was desperate -- and it worked. With her eyes fixed on Danielle's, Rahne slowly made the trek across the cliff, and although she was trembling from head to foot, she didn't wolf even when she finally jumps to freedom beside Dani.

"You did it," Dani whispers, feeling almost like crying now that Rahne's safe.

"I did it because o' ye," Rahne whispers, caressing her face. "Ye ha'e beautiful eyes, Dani."

"You're beautiful, little wolfy," Danielle whispers back, choking down her tears and hugging her, "everywhere!" And if, no, when, she tells herself, they make it through this adventure, she's going to pay proper homage to every beautiful spot on her, be damned what her people, Cable, the Professor, or any of the others think!
