"Mother, what are You doing? You're tired. You should be resting." The white wings on Cupid's back rustle restlessly as He questions His Mother.

Aphrodite looks up, but before She can speak, Ares growls His own frustration beside Her. "It won't do any good," He says, looking pointedly away. Cupid knows His gaze is piercing through the clouds all the way down to where the mortals play millions and millions of miles so far below Them.

"We're not allowed to intervene with them again. You know that," He says gently. "Not after what happened last time."

"It's not going to do any good, Kid," Ares snorts, His gold earring bobbing with the movement of His dark head. "She's in one of Her moods. She isn't listening to any one." He starts to walk away but pauses as Cupid cries out in shock.

"Mother! What are You doing with My bow?!"

"What needs to be done," Aphrodite returns determinedly. "This world feels too little love now that We are gone from it. People are constantly breaking up. There are more divorces than marriages now!"

Ares snorts derisively again. "That's only because more people are becoming acquainted with the idea of changing their spouses."

"But spouses aren't meant to be changed! A person should always marry for love!"

"And how many beds have You been in this week alone?" the God of War demands.

Aphrodite's beautiful face drops into a pout. "That is so not the point!"

"Enough, both of You!" Cupid says, standing between the two of Them. His wings open on His back, spanning out to their full length and pushing Ares farther away.

"Watch it, You little winged brat," the War God mutters, but Cupid knows He won't hurt Him, not while His Mother is so close. The Gods may take many lovers, but everybody knows that Aphrodite has been a favorite of Ares' for centuries. He won't risk upsetting Her any further. With His back to Him, He continues speaking to His Mother and holds out His hand. "Mother, give Me back My bow."

"No." Aphrodite's still pouting, but there's a solemn expression in Her blue eyes. "Not until I've done what needs to be done." Spreading Her feet apart on two different clouds, She readies the bow and strains it, preparing for just the right moment.

"Mother, don't -- "

"I'm telling You this isn't a good idea," Ares repeats what He'd said before the Kid Wonder had appeared.

"I don't care if You think it's a good idea or not! You just want to be able to get to her before Gabrielle does, and I'm telling You that's not happening! Of all My couples, they were always the best suited for each other! They went through Heaven and Hell for one another -- literally!"

"They also helped bring about Our downfall, if You remember," Ares mutters darkly.

"I remember, and I remember You helping them every step of the way once You stopped trying to be what Father wanted You to be! Now, both of You, shut up! I'm trying to concentrate!" Aphrodite strains and lets first one and then another arrow fly. The three Gods watch intently as the arrows spiral toward Earth and the unsuspecting women for whom they are intended.

Cupid makes a face. "Granddad's not going to like this," He warns.

Aphrodite perches a hand on Her scantily clad hip. "Oh, who cares what that old fart's going to like?!" She retorts, making Ares wince and Cupid physically cringe. His feathers rustle in concern of the coming doom.

"Yes!" Aphrodite crows as the first arrow hits its mark, making the new body that Gabrielle's spirit now inhabits lift its head and look across the library at the dark-haired woman she never would have taken notice of otherwise.

"YES!" Aphrodite pumps both Her fists into the Heavenly air as Her second mark is hit. Xena's new body suddenly can't keep its eyes off of a beautiful, if petite, blonde sitting at a desk in the library. Her research suddenly forgotten, she starts toward the blonde even as thunder rumbles loudly.

"APHRODITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The Heavens rumble with the Chief God's cry.

"Uh oh." Aphrodite pouts again as She quickly hands Her Son back His bow.

"Don't hand them back to Me now!" Cupid waves her away and takes flight. "You did this all on Your own!"

"You're My Son -- " the Goddess of Love starts.

"Which means I know exactly how much trouble You cause! See ya, Mom!" He flies away even as the Heavens shake with ominous thunder again.

Aphrodite almost loses Her footing and grabs for Ares. With a touch whose gentility would surprise any one else, Ares lifts Her hand from His tunic and guides Her to sit back down on Her pink cloud. "Sorry, sweetheart, You did this one on Your own." He kisses Her forehead, grins wickedly, and blinks out, leaving His sister to face the wrath of Their Father.

But as Aphrodite prepares Her best pout and mentally readies all Her laments for when Daddy Dearest comes swooping down, She looks back down through the clouds at the two mortals who now can not take their eyes off of one another. The new Gabrielle's book is actually closed for the first time in hours as she makes eyes with the new Xena. Aphrodite grins. She doesn't know their names yet this time around, but She'd recognize their spirits anywhere! "So worth it!" She exclaims happily and faces Her Father with Her very best and brightest smile.

She may not be as strong as She once was, with so few believers in this time, but She's still got the gift to make sure Her best friends once again find the forever loves that are meant just for them!
